Unlocked iPhones headed to Apple Stores for Wednesday: MC603 (16GB, Black) MC604 (16GB, White) MC605 (32GB, Black) MC606 (32GB, White)
This information was tweeted out by @chronicwire and @geohotting on Twitter. So if this tip is anything to go by, customers in the US will then have the option of buying an officially unlocked iPhone 4 instead of one that is tied to an AT&T or Verizon Wireless two year contract.
There’s a little drawback here though. Customers may have to pay a very high price for an official unlocked iPhone as compared to one on a contract, as the price of the iPhone 4 is subsidized by the respective carrier when it is bought on a contract. Apple is going to charge without any subsidy for officially unlocked iPhone 4, and that can very well be up in to a couple of hundred dollars.
Come Wednesday, and we shall see how much truth is there in this claim. On another note, an officially unlocked iPhone 4 can end the misery of those who can’t part with their iPhones and have to switch SIMs often. We’ll update you more on this, as it develops.
