Citing “data points†picked up from a Chinese electronics trade show to be held this week, he notes how Apple may be set to go beyond the ‘Apple TV’ offering we know today, and instead may be gearing to offer a “full-blown†TV product.
Our research suggests this Smart TV would go well beyond the miniature $99 second-generation Apple TV that the company released last fall and provide a full-blown TV product for consumers,†White said.He went on to say that although Apple has long been projected by company watchers to enter the HDTV market, the Mac maker now appears to be “moving down this pace at a faster pace than the market expected.â€
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumors of Apple possibly planning to expand its TV product offerings, though. In January, we noted how Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster had predicted the company was saving its “biggest announcement†(… a TV set), for introduction sometime next year.
Then, in February, it was noted that an Apple job posting hinted the company was hiring for a TV-related project.
In this position, you will be part of pride developing innovative designs, which are implemented in products used by millions of people. The position primarily involves high-density offline power supply’s development for Apple’s next generation Macintosh platforms spanning from notebook computers, desktop computers, servers, standalone displays and TV.
However, with Apple executives having been quoted in the past as saying the company is simply “not interested†in the TV set market, and with Apple still considering its Apple TV a “hobby†product line, little can be said as to whether Apple has any plans to introduce a “full-blown†TV solution.
