Apple, along with some of the biggest tech names including Google, have asked the Supreme Court to use 4th amendment protection for location data. The companies are requesting that the authorities require a warrant before gathering location data on an individual. This comes on the heels of a 2011 conviction of armed robberies, where the investigators apprehended the culprit using location data gathered from Sprint and MetroPCS.
