Apple announced yesterday that it would be acquiring Intel’s smartphone modem business for $1 billion. Apple has been working on its in-house modem for quite some time and given that Intel was Apple’s modem supplier, this move was not really surprising. Apple is looking to leverage the acquisition to boost the development of its in-house modem.
