The introduction of 3D Touch in iPhone allowed iOS users to quickly access multitasking by pressing firmly on the left edge of the display. However, with the release of the second developer beta of iOS 11, some new additions and deletions from the upcoming mobile operating system are coming to light. Initially, what we thought as a bug, has turned out to be the removal of 3D Touch multitasking feature from iOS 11.

Bryan Irace reported to Apple that the 3D Touch multitasking feature was not working as it should in the latest version of iOS 11 beta. Apple responded to Irace’s bug file with a concise and to-the-point message:

“Please know that this feature was intentionally removed.”

With the release of latest iOS 11 beta, many speculated that the feature was simply broken because of an early beta stage, or the company had not yet rolled out the feature in the latest software update. However, many expected that it will eventually arrive, not simply get removed altogether.

One of the coolest uses of 3D Touch was a pretty simple gesture to enable multitasking. This feature, in fact, made switching between apps much easier than double pressing the Home button. The iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, and iPhone 7s Plus users have been able to make use of this feature, but it appears that it won’t be making the leap to iOS 11 and any new iPhone model the company is going to launch.

Since the 3D Touch multitasking feature was liked by many, it is going to be interesting to see the reaction on its removal once the final version of iOS 11 is released to the general public. Did you regularly use the 3D Touch multitasking feature?
