Apple is expected to experience the biggest iPhone sales year ever next year with the launch of iPhone 8, predicts the KGI securities’ analyst. The analyst estimates three new models of the 2017 iPhone that will see ‘unprecedented’ demand. KGI estimates iPhone sales figure to hit 120-150 million units during the second quarter of 2017, effectively breaking the previous sales record set by the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

KGI believes that, with the iPhone 8, Apple will be able to attract both the high-end customers as well as the low-end of the smartphone market. The new premium OLED iPhone form-factor will likely attract the high-end customers to upgrade to the newer model while the low-end 4.7-inch iPhone model with wireless charging and a glass chassis will encourage the low-end customers of the market.

The report also reiterates what the firm has said before; the Apple will introduce three different models of the iPhonein 2017. One of which will see a major redesign (most probably dubbed ‘iPhone 8’) and the two iterative updates to the existing 4.7-inch iPhone 7 and 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus.

The report believes that Apple will make the ‘less-exciting’ devices still very compelling by adding wireless charging feature. This wireless charging feature will be available in all 2017 iPhone models. The iterative models will look identical to the iPhone 7 but the aluminum chassis will be replaced with a glass casing, potentially including upgraded CPU/GPU and improved cameras.

The ‘iPhone 8,’ however, is expected to include a radical new design with a large OLED display that curves around the sides of the phone. Many rumor and report outlets are describing this upcoming iPhone to be a bezel-less smartphone with a home button integrated within the display.

An earlier report from KGI also suggested that wireless charging is going to be a star feature across all three iiPhone models in 2017. Despite being a feature included in all upcoming iPhone models, the wireless charger may be available as an additional accessory, the earlier report suggested.

According to KGI, this combination of low-end and high-end targeting will enable Apple to break any sales record set during any previous cycle. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus has so far been the best selling smartphones from the house the Apple. Because of the first iPhones to feature larger screens, Apple managed 110-120 million units during the second half of 2014. The KGI analyst believes that Apple suppliers are preparing to produce 120-150 million iPhone units in the second half of 2017.

The majority of the report are in consensus that ‘iPhone 8’ is going to have a 5.8-inch OLED display. The OLED display will wrap around the sides of the device. The reports also indicate a 5.2-inch active touchscreen area of around 5.2 inches.

Consensus on screen size for the OLED iPhone is around 5.8 inches although some of that area will be used to wrap the display around the sides of the device. Reports indicate that the touchscreen itself will have an active touchscreen area of around 5.2 inches.
