Apple is Working on a 3D Camera for the iPhone 8 [Report]

According to a new report from The Korea Herald., it looks like that Apple is working with LG to develop a 3D camera for its next generation iPhone which said to be called “iPhone 8”.  The camera module will reportedly use LG Innotek’s dual camera.

 From the report:

Sources close to the situation said, “Apple is now studying how to apply its 3D camera technology into LG Innotek’s smartphone camera,” adding, “Since LG Innotek also has its own 3D camera and related technologies, such joint efforts will likely to bear fruit sometime within next year.”

The site notes that Apple gained 3D camera technology from LinX, an Israeli startup the company purchased in April 2015. The technology adds depth to photos by dividing the image in three stages. 

Apple acquired an Israeli start-up LinX in April 2015 for US$20 million, absorbing the latter’s 3D camera technology. LinX, founded in 2011, has the technology of adding more depth to photos by dividing the digital image in three stages.

We’ve been hearing reports for some time that the 10th anniversary iPhone will be a major update. It will purportedly have a front glass cover and chassis, joined by a metal bezel and an edge-to-edge display that has no bezels on the top and bottom. Additionally, the front camera, Touch ID, speaker, and other sensors will apparently be embedded into the display. Another report claims that the device would be a clear piece of glass with a next-generation OLED screen. More recently, Apple is said to have be equipping the phone with wireless charging.
