Siri, there`s a new kid in town, her name is Evi and she might be your competition. As you must now, Siri is the iPhone 4S super intelligent assistant. What has given Siri so much popularity is its efficiency in returning results.

Evi is True Knowledge`s Siri competition and it`s available for the iPhone (iTunes link) and Android (market link). Why is Evi expected to play head-to head with Siri? Siri is a very responsive digital assistant and it returns great results when asked to return information about the US, but when it`s not about the US, Siri might not be as enjoyable. Evi, on the other hand, is not limited to the US. We could call it Siri for the rest of the world, I guess.

Another really interesting thing about Evi is that it works well on any Android or iPhone !!!, not just 4S. That could be a way out for non-iPhone 4S owners who find the whole port Siri to other devices using a Siri proxy intimidating.

Evi is a very smart voice recognition that takes natural language text, processes it, try to understand what the users means, then returns with a relative response. This is no easy task and Evi does all this. It might sometimes return imperfect results. However, True Knowledge is improving it.
True that so far Evi fails to set reminders, add things to the iPhone calendar, but in its defense, the app is still in beta version. So, all these features could be coming in the updates.

Evi has an ontology of tens of thousands of classes into which everything that can be talked about falls. She also knows almost a billion ‘facts’ (machine understandable bits of knowledge) and, says True Knowledge, she can infer trillions more when needed.

Siri`s competition integrates other sources like Yelp for local searches, external mobile friendly websites, APIS, traditional search, etc.

Let`s see how Evi could one day beat the almighty Siri. Ask Siri ”how do I make apple pie?”. Siri fails to give a quick answer and asks if you want to search the web. Evi, on the other hand, returns with a list of recipes and web links.

Do you think Evi will become the new Siri?
