Over the past few months, it has been reported over and over that Apple is considering OLED display for its 2017 iPhone models (iPhone 8?). Now the fruit company is said to be in talks with SHARP to secure OLED display supplies for 2017 iPhone. The terms are said to be dependent on Sharp’s production capabilities.

Apple is reportedly looking for additional suppliers in an effort to diversify its supply chain. This will help the company in avoiding the risk of dependency on one company to obtain OLED displays for the iPhone 8, which is meant tone released in 2017.

Sharp has announced an investment of $566 million in developing its own OLED facilities in Mie and Osaka located in Japan. These newly invested facilities are expected to begin mass production of OLED displays by June 2018. It will be company’s first major investment after its acquisition by the Chinese manufacturing giant, Foxconn. Foxconn is Apple’s chief vendor responsible for assembling Apple devices and stood among Apple’s key vendors with $3.8 billion easier this year.

Apple has reportedly been in search of OLED supplier since the rumour of company’s expected switch to OLED displays surfaced. The fruit company reportedly securing a deal for OLED supplies with its arch-rival Samsung. The Koran giant, Samsung,is not only the largest OLED producer around the globe, it has the best OLED manufacturing muscles in the world. Samsung has been using OLED displays in its flagship smartphones since many years now and is widely regarded as the best smartphones display available in the market.

Other than the OLED display, Apple’s upcoming iPhone 8, the 2017 iPhone model, is rumoured to feature a new glass design and an edge-to-edge OLED display.
