Samsung unveils Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge ahead of rumored 5.5-inch iPhone 6 launch

Yesterday it was a big day for Samsung fans, the company unveiled two new products which are next generation Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge smartphone with a curved display that provides an app launcher and contextual controls on the edge of the screen. The company also introduced the Gear S smartwatch and Gear VR headset in partnership with Oculus VR.

From the noticeable features in Galaxy Note 4: A premium metal frame design with a 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display at 2,560 x 1,440 pixels resolution, 2.7 GHz quad-core processor, 3 GB of RAM, 16-megapixel rear-facing camera with Smart OIS, 32 GB internal storage, 3,220 mAh lithium-ion battery, NFC, microSD slot, Bluetooth 4.1, 4G LTE, the latest Wi-Fi standards and more.

The handset runs Android 4.4 KitKat coupled with Samsung software such as S Health 3.5 and S Pen optimized features including Air Command — Action Memo, Smart Select, Image Clip and Screen Write — S Note, Snap Note and Direct Pen Input. The Galaxy Note 4 will be available globally in October, in Charcoal Black, Frost White, Bronze Gold and Blossom Pink.

It is rumored that Apple is working to launch the new iPhone 6 with 5.5-inch display which may take a while due to ongoing production challenges, the Galaxy Note 4 would likely be one of its biggest competitors.

As for the Galaxy Note Edge, it features a 5.6-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display and is otherwise powered by the same hardware under the hood, will be available in select markets beginning later this year. The handset, like the flagship Galaxy Note 4, also runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box. The smartphone is launching in two colors, Charcoal Black and Frost White.
