Apple won’t launch 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 together to avoid competition

As  most of you know, we all expect Apple to introduce two iPhone 6 models this year, one with 4.7-inch screen and the other with 5.5-inch screen display. But we have heard contradictory reports about when the two new iPhone models will be launched.

In September, it was initially reported that Apple will launch the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 in September, but the launch of the larger 5.5-inch model could be delayed due to manufacturing issues. However, recent reports have indicated that Apple has addressed those manufacturing issues, and will launch the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 alongside the 4.7-inch model.

Today and according to a new report from DigiTimes, Apple will delay the launch of the 5.5-inch model for strategic reasons. The report claims that Apple wants to avoid competition between the two models.

The different timetables have been set as Apple does not want to repeat the mistake it made in 2013 when it launched the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c simultaneously, said the sources.

The primary reason it is trying to launch iPhones with bigger screens is to compete with Android smartphones, and in case of the 5.5-inch iPhone 6, it would be competing with Android based phablets like Samsung Galaxy Note 4, which is expected to launched in September. It doesn’t make sense that Apple would delay the launch of the larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 model to avoid competition from the 4.7-inch model, as it would be counter productive. People who are looking for smartphones with 5.5-inch or bigger screens will switch to the Galaxy Note 4, and the ones who end up buying the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 because they don’t have option, will be disappointed when Apple eventually launches the 5.5-inch model.
