Facebook has made a big release recently with its new Slingshot app. It’s a free download offering features such as the ones you see in Snapchat, which has been setting trends when it comes to media and message exchange between users which get deleted after a certain amount of time.

Slingshot allows you to share texts and images with a focus on messaging realizing on the concept of sharing (what the app calls slinging).

Facebook says:

Slingshot lets you quickly share moments — little and big — with lots of people at once. Shoot a photo or video of what you’re up to and sling it to a bunch of friends. They won’t be able to see your shot until they sling something back. Tap on a shot to react, or simply swipe it away.

Slingshot was born out of Creative Labs hackathon. Facebook created this as their second app, with the aim to make it easy for users to share everyday moments quickly.

The team of Slingshot says everybody is a creator with this application and no body acts as a spectator:

When everyone participates, there’s less pressure, more creativity and even the little things in life can turn into awesome shared experiences. This is what Slingshot is all about.

Although Slingshot lets you juice up videos and photos by adding color and text, friends are not able to see anything until they send something back, and they can either swipe your shot away or rely through a reaction.

You can also use your finger to draw on photos and listen to the background music.

The official changelog lists the following features:

• Stay in touch: Capture photos and videos of moments you want to share with friends
• Go shot for shot: To unlock new shots, first you have to sling something back
• Enjoy it while it lasts: Once you swipe a shot away, it’ll no longer be viewable
• Send a quick reply: After unlocking a shot, respond with your reaction
• Get creative: Express yourself with captions and drawings
• Look when you want: View unlocked shots later if you’re busy

Download the app from the App Store free of cost. It works on iOS 7 and above. Let us know how you would compare it with Snapchat
