Just a while ago, we reported about the iPhone 5S sensor being referred to as Touch ID courtesy of Nowhereelse.fr. This turned out true. Apple displayed iPhone 5S, which runs a 64-bit A7 chip and a motion chip known as M7.

The presenters announced the fingerprint scanning feature at the list. It is built into the silver ring Home Button, and the sensor allows users to log in more securely.

The sensor is 170 microns thin. It is based on capacitive touch technology that has a resolution of 500 PI. Touch ID therefore works no matter how the finger is swiped over the Home button.

Another feature is that there is no need to set a password in case of iTunes app buying as the iOS 7 firmware only asks for the fingerprint scanner – this will save a lot of time. Touch ID will also prevent thieves from accessing the device and Apple says the fingerprint stays within the device and isn’t backed up to the cloud.

Now with one click purchases, consumers are going to find it quite convenient to use iTunes. Apple didn’t say anything about real-life purchases with this feature, but it is expected that they soon will be receiving feature.

As of now, only iPhone 5S includes the Touch ID, but future iOS devices are expected to come with them as well.

The iPhone 5C on the other hand won’t have the sensor as it doesn’t run on A7 chip.

What do you think of the Touch ID feature?
