Apple has done a makeover to its iPod lineup every fall. However, the iPhone and iPad has taken the limelight away from the iPods in recent times. That doesn’t change the fact that Apple makes the world’s most reliable MP3 Player with such a great battery time. Therefore, the iPod is the most dominant MP3 player.

The 2012 iPods offers notable new additions. The fifth-generation iPod Touch has larger screen, and the iPod Touch now has a good display as well. Both of the devices are compatible with the new Lightning dock connector that has replaced the traditional old 30-pin dock connector.

So which of the iPods will you buy? Here’s a quick summary of each:

The Apple iPod Touch (5th generation)

The newest iPod Touch from the fruit company features a wider 4-inch screen along with a Lightning port. This new port has replaced the 30-pin connection on the bottom of the device. Siri has been included in the new device and the camera has also been improved. For the first time, the iPod Touch is available in multiple colors that include: pink, green, silver, red, blue and black. The 32GB model is priced at $299 while the 64GB one is $399.

The Apple iPod Touch (4th generation)

The fruit company will be keeping the previous iPod Touch model as an entry-level option. The measurement of the screen, diagonally, is 3.5-inches. You can buy it in black or white. It still has the 30-pin connector and works with older accessories. The 16GB model is $199 and the 32GB one is $249.

The Apple iPod Nano

The design of this year’s iPod Nano is different from what we have seen in the previous models. It doesn’t run on the same iOS as the iPhone and it can’t be used by third-party apps which are downloaded from the App Store. It features a 2.5-inch touch screen and has a home button similar to the one featured in the iPod Touch design.

It has a lot of features like FM radio, music and video playback, pedometer, Photo viewer and Nike+. The Bluetooth audio has also been included (for the first time in the series) and it supports wireless speakers and headphones. It also has a Lightning port. The 16GB device is priced at $149.

The Apple iPod Shuffle

The new device hasn’t changed much from the previous versions except being available in more colors like black, silver, blue, green, purple, yellow, pink and red. The 2GB player is priced at $49.

The Apple iPod Classic

As the name implies, the iPod Classis stays true its form. The 160GB device is priced at $249 and it’s available in silver or black. It has a 30-pin connector which is compatible with the older accessories.
