The iPad 3 rumors are finally over with Apple sending invitations today to media outfits announcing a media event to be held in San Francisco on March 7th for the next gen iPad.

This official announcement came after months of rumors and speculations about the iPad 3 release date and specs. This announcement puts an end to a possible release date. However, it doesn’t with regard to the expected specs.

It has been reported that Foxconn and Pegatron have been assembling the devices in Mainland China over the last couple of months. We are only a week or so away from an official release, and here`s the expected specs we have rounded up so far.

The iPad 3 is claimed to feature a Retina Display with a resolution double that of the iPad 2, a larger battery, a faster processor which we are still not clear whether it`s going to be an A5X or an A6 one.

The next gen iPad is also expected to feature an 8 megapixel rear camera. As for the 4G LTE technology, we did see published reports that the new device will support LTE, but we don`t think Apple is enthusiastic about it at least for the time being. This new gear would mean a slightly thicker tablet.
