The source claimed that the software update will be released no later than the following week.

The blog`s source assures that Apple has indeed fixed the battery drainage issues (Well, we have to see it to believe it). However, there’re still some memory leaks issues which require more work. So, instead of releasing 5.0.3 immediately after, Apple preferred to delay the release until it fixes all the issues. And then we wait again.
Apple has to fix these problems fast for iPhone 4S users patience is definitely wearing thin.
