As you must have heard, Apple released today the new update for iOS 5, version iOS 5.0.1, to the masses. This version is upgraded to bring a lot of bug fixes like the quick battery drainage issue, better overall performance, multitasking gestures for iPad one and Siri improvements.

Early reports suggest a better performance with this iOS 5.0.1 and a battery drainage fix as promised. However, Apple support forums are now filled with users saying that the battery issue is NOT fixed with this update and the quick drainage problem remains.

New update is no help at all. I opened Safari and lost 2 % just by opening it.

Upgraded to 5.0.1 this morning. Still draining at the exact same rate. Unplugged with a full charge 2 1/2 hours ago, and already down to 80% with light usage. Just lost 2% during a 15 minute shower. I see no difference at all.

Same here. Updated about 1.5 hours ago, battery has drained 20% since then with no usage! This is awful!

Roughly the same numbers here.

This is really some disappointing news and we await Apple`s comment on the matter.

Note: AllThingsD has been provided a statement by Apple that it is still investigating the complaints regarding the battery life to find out the root cause of the issue. This was the statement issued by Apple.

The recent iOS software update addressed many of the battery issues that some customers experienced on their iOS 5 devices,” the company said in a statement. “We continue to investigate a few remaining issues.”

Already working on a follow-up update for any problems yet to discover and incorporating fixes for it, Apple is still to commit on any near term iOS update to resolve any unknown additional issues.
