At last, Facebook app for iPad is finally a fact, after sneak peaks and mysteriously long delays. Facebook users can finally stop wondering why no official Facebook app is available for Apple’s iPad. As of Today’s evening, Facebook’s iOS app is now a universal binary that supports the iPhone and iPod touch as well as the iPad.
Today, Facebook announced their first app for the iPad.
Facebook for iPad not only includes popular features from the site like photos and games, but also optimizes them for the unique capabilities of the iPad.
Facebook for iPad is available today in the Apple App Store and additional information can be found in the blog post attached.
Additionally Facebook announced they are extending the Facebook Platform to mobile including the new iPad app, iPhone/iPod app and mobile web site. The Facebook Platform will allow mobile developers to take advantage of social channels for search of discovery of their apps and also the Facebook Credits payment system.
Additional details about the Facebook Platform on mobile can be found in the second blog post attached as well.
It looks pretty much like the same Facebook iPad app that was previewed in July which means there’s a familiar (for those who use the iPad) left-hand column for simple navigation of the News Feed, Photos, Messages, Groups, Apps, Settings, Chat and more.
Facebook Photos on the iPad look especially good (something Facebook has trouble with on their website) because they go full screen and can be zoomed in and swiped. Facebook games can also be played full screen and the iPad app supports AirPlay for Facebook videos as well.
The iPad app is a universal update to their iOS app. You can now download it from Here. [iTunes via Facebook]
