Back in September, when Apple announced the new iPhones, it did not unveil a new iPod Classic, which led many to believe that the company had discontinued it. A month later, Tim Cook confirmed that Apple had to stop making the iPod Classic because certain components required to manufacture it where no longer available, and the cost of engineering a new version was not worth it due to its tapering demand.
