A few month ago, the Korean tech giant had confirmed that the company indeed kicked off development of super-premium foldable smartphones. Now the Samsung’s mobile chief has officially said that the foldable smartphone will be an “impeccable product” that will domination the smartphone market for years to come.
The company has reportedly shown off its “Galaxy X” (tentatively called) to a private group of audience at CES 2018, reports Korean Herald. The company is said to have demoed both infolding and outfolding smartphone to that private audience.
A source familiar with the matter commented that “The phone development seems to be almost finished, raising expectations for the phone launch. Upon asking about the timing of foldable phone launch, Samsung mobile chief had this to say to the reported in Las Vegas:
We are working hard on the foldable phone. We are preparing for an impeccable product that will dominate the market in the long run.
He further added that user experience was the biggest challenge in commercialization and said that company was paying much attention to overcome the issue. Back in September 2017, the Samsung mobile CEO had officially said that the company’s first foldable smartphone could hit the market in 2018 via an all-new Note series model in its roadmap.
Another rumor hints that Samsung has cemented a firm mass production schedule for a foldable smartphone in the coming November. If true, this indicates that Samsung has made up its mind to release a super-premium foldable smartphone. The rumor also added that Samsung Galaxy X could feature a pair of flexible OLED panels measuring at 7.3-inch diagonally and folded inwardly.
PatentlyApple reported a few days ago, Samsung was awarded a patent by US Patent and Trademark Office covering devices that are foldable, rollable, and stretchable. Samsung may officially unveil its foldable smartphone in early 2019 at Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress trade show.
Samsung is widely expected to unveil its next-generation Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus next month during a press conference at Mobile World Congress.
