DigiTimes claims that the next-generation iPad will feature an advanced high-resolution IGZO display (Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide). Well, let`s teardown this rumor. IGZO panels are pretty popular for they offer up to 330 dots-per-inch for larger displays without any of the caveats. They also don`t require dual-bar LED backlighthing which could add to the thickness of the tablet and they are power efficient.
That rumor was seconded by another report from AppleInsider in which they point to a recent investor note from Jeffries analyst Peter Misek regarding the subject.
“In our view, this [IGZO panels] should lead to several design advantages, namely the device can be thinner, battery life should be longer, and the overall experience for users should be meaningfully improved.”
The manufacturing company will reportedly be Sharp, the Japanese company Apple invested a billion dollars in.
The rumor actually adds up this time. IGZO panels do exist and they are just perfect. They have proven to be mass-manufacturable. So, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if we see them in the next gen iPad. If that materializes, we will get a thinner body than that of the current model as well as an extended battery life.
