Apple is widely expected to launch three new iPhone models later this year. Two of these new models are expected to be incremental updates to the current iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. While these models will share the vast majority of the design decisions with current generation models, but a key change in the design will make these handsets slightly thicker.

Based on the information received from an unnamed came maker and alleged specification documents, Giga Apple reports that the iPhone 7s is going to be slightly thicker than the iPhone 7. The publication claims that the device will be at least 0.1mm thicker than the current generation devices. The publication further adds that the iPhone 7s will also see a slight increase in all dimensions, not just the thickness.

The reason behind this increase in thickness is the introduction of a glass design on the front and back of the devices and an aluminum frame sandwiched between them. If the report turns out to be true, the iPhone 7s thickness will measure at 7.21mm, compared to the 7.1mm thickness of the iPhone 7.

Apple’snext-generation iPhone models are widely expected to feature wireless charging and to achieve that the company is switching to a glass design for the back and front of the models. This alleged increase in thickness of the device is technical in nature, it’s likely that many people won’t even notice this increase – even those upgrading directly to the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus.

We have seen numerous leaks, dummies, and schematics of the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 7s/Plus over the past few months. A most recently leaked dummy unit gives us the best look at the glass-backed design. This year Apple is going to launch iPhone 8, iPhone 7s, and iPhone 7s Plus, which one are you planning on getting for yourself?
